Charming Change of Pace Dining in Downtown Grand Junction, Colorado Downtown Grand Junction has a charming feel…..that easy walkability with eclectic shops and abundant food options that make this Western Slope town a great place to visit or live. One of the gems downtown is the MX Tapas Bar and Restaurante.

When you climb the stairs the first time you visit you will appreciate how this restaurant unfolds from greeting area to lounge to dining area. The atmosphere is comfortable and quiet enough for a daytime business meeting yet charming enough for an intimate dinner for two. Bright and vibrant décor is tempered with soft lighting to create a warm feel for the dining area. The staff is gracious and “present” but not in the “in your face” annoying way. Servers, like Hunter, are knowledgeable and can guide you to the treasures on their menu.

Get started with a delicious cocktail, try the Mojitos or Margaritas made with Mezcal for a twist. Don’t be annoyed by the obligatory chips and salsa….they are homemade and the salsa is incredible. Menu items vary, and this is where the Spanish-Mexican fusion theme becomes evident. Most ingredients are locally grown except those Spanish specific delights like the Monchego cheese and the Salchion salami. “Tapas” comes from the Spanish word lid. It refers to the century old tradition in hot and dusty Spanish inns and bars to place a plate over the customer´s drink (usually a glass of wine), to keep out the flies.

Today think of Tapas as a small portion of Spanish culinary delights that can be shared as appetizers or a few can be chosen as dinner to give you a variety of treats without ordering full size portions. The entrée items are more standard in serving side and showcase the fusion theme of the restaurant. Don’t be afraid to bring your vegetarian diners either because there are several options for vegans and vegetarians as well. I don’t think it is possible to make a bad selection on this menu. Everything served is delicious and visually pleasing. Owners Francisco and Betty Cervantes have created a gem of a dining adventure. The Grand Junction restaurant scene is better for the presence of MX Tapas Bar and Restaurante.
